Pricing Closeout and Salvage Inventory: A POS Guide for Discount Grocery Stores
Updated: Sep 28

Discount and salvage grocery stores buy what's available, often in mixed lots, and need it on the shelf quickly at the right price. That puts pressure on a discount grocery store POS in ways a standard supermarket setup isn't built for.
What a Discount Grocery Store POS Needs to Handle
Closeout and overstock buys bring new items, one-time items and shifting costs. Without the right tools, staff end up keying items by hand, guessing at prices, or leaving margin on the table.
Price quickly and track cost and margin on every load
StoreLIVE!'s Item Lookup function allows you to track a purchased load of items. It gives you a quick way to adjust pricing, see the last price change date, and last sold date. It also allows you to see when you break even on the purchase price of the load by calculating the amount you will recoup when items scanned into the load sell at the retail prices you've set. It allows pricing tickets to be printed from a Zebra label printer.
Handle items that don't scan
Some closeout items arrive without usable barcodes. Quick item menus let cashiers ring them up fast, and barcode printing lets you label items or shelves with your own codes. Our Supplies store carries shelf tags, labels and scanners.

Frequently asked questions
Can I import a load's item list instead of typing it?
Yes. Item lists can be imported from Excel; however, the item entry screen is optimized to streamline new item entry. Sometimes the manual entry is the cleanest way to enter items. Either way, we are here to help!
What happens if our internet goes down?
StoreLIVE! is installed on-premise. If the connection to the internet or store's server is lost, checkout keeps working for cash and check transactions.
