Spring Rush Checklist: Getting Your Garden Center POS Ready

Garden center benches filled with colorful spring primroses

The spring rush leaves little time to fix problems at the register. Working through this garden center spring checklist in the weeks before the season keeps checkout fast and inventory on track.

Six to eight weeks before

  1. Count inventory and adjust quantities so the season starts with accurate numbers.

  2. Set min/max levels or reorder points for your top sellers, so purchase orders reflect real demand. For more on seasonal ordering, see our guide to garden center POS and seasonal inventory.

  3. Review costs from growers and suppliers, and update selling prices and margins.

Two to four weeks before

  1. Schedule seasonal price changes and promotions so they switch on automatically.

  2. Build or update quick menus for plants, flats and bulk items without barcodes. See our guide to ringing up plants and unbarcoded items.

  3. Order receipt paper, labels and tags from our Supplies store.

  4. Test every register, scanner and printer so problems are found and corrected before the rush.

The week before

  1. Train seasonal staff on sales, suspended sales and returns.

  2. Set up employee logins and permissions for new staff.

  3. Confirm gift card and charge account setups.

  4. Save your support contacts, including emergency support hours.

During the season

Check sales and inventory reports weekly, and adjust reorders before best sellers run out. StoreLIVE! can generate purchase orders from reorder points and sales history.
